Pre parados para el nuevo Palm

Hola, antes de comenzar decir que la imagen, que por cierto esta muy lograda pertenece a Gadgeteer.

Y ahora si, vamos a echar un vistazo institucional al nuevo Palm Pre con sus WebOS (vale, si, la broma no es nueva). Y que mejor que pasar de sus especificaciones, que son bastante buenas, y centrarnos en lo que nos gusta en este blog, su utilidad.

El análisis es institucional porque el aparato aún no está a la venta (ve cerrando la ventana de eBay, que seguro que es falso). Su primer mercado será USA con la operadora móvil Sprint, posteriormente se lanzará en Europa con conexiones UMTS HDSPA probablemente con Vodafone, su afiliada para nuestro mercado. Se espera que ambos lanzamientos sean previos al verano, según palabras de su presidente, Ed Colligan.

Ahora viene la parte en la que muchos dirán ¿Es mejor que el iPhone?. Bueno, ya hemos probado el iPhone y pronto añadiremos nuestro análisis a los que ya están por ahí publicados, aunque no sabemos si será del gusto de todos. Por otro lado, nunca nos ha parecido bien la comparativa directa, es decir, veremos si esta a la altura y que los caracteriza de forma común, pero no cual es mejor, por que eso depende de para que lo queramos.

El Palm ofrece antes de nada un tamaño más comedido, con una pantalla de poco más de 3" (3.1) el teléfono se reduce en altura y anchura, aunque "engorda" un poquito. El mayor grosor viene definido por su teclado completo deslizante, escondido bajo la pantalla y de muy pequeño tamaño.

Este Pre recoge todos los avances del iPhone con total descaro, pero también con pleno reconocimiento, si es lo que el público quiere, habrá que dárselo. Eso si, tengo el primer pero. La parte inferior del terminal, donde se encuentra su botón principal, también es táctil. Mi pregunta iría encaminada a saber como bloqueamos esta parte del terminal para que al cogerlo o guardarlo no se active por descuido. Imagino que estará contemplado pero...aún no lo sabemos.

Tiene sensores varios, pantalla multitáctil (capacitiva) y toda la gestión multimedia necesaria hoy en día. Como ventaja importantísima el hecho que funciona como dispositivo de "almacenamiento masivo" (como un lápiz de memoria, vamos) por lo que para cargarlo de contenidos no tenemos más que arrastrar los archivos dentro del terminal, un paso más alla de los DRM (lease coñazo de los derechos de reproducción digitales).

También la cámara merece una mención, no sólo por la presencia de flash y sus 3 megapixeles, que algunos ya critican como escasos, sino por la inclusión de procesador de imagen con profundidad de campo (imagino que será un autofoco por software) que permitirá no sólo hacer fotos, como todos los móviles, sino hacerlas con buena calidad que es lo realmente importante.

Hablar de su conectividad, duración de la batería o software antes de tenerlo con nosotros es todavía prematuro, habrá que ver como se desenvuelve en la "vida real" pero una cosa es cierta, si cumple lo que promete pronto será un miembro más de nuestra familia tecnológica.

Añadir antes de acabar que en un sabio movimiento Palm ha sabido reinventarse si olvidar su pasado, por ello el Kit de Desarrollo (Mojo SDK) incluye opciones para portar las clásicas aplicaciones de PalmOS Garnet a este nuevo sistema.

Ya queda por ver si el producto final es tan interesante como aparenta en las presentaciones oficiales, por lo demás, a nosotros nos gusta.
